What are Dental Implants?
Implants are a type of restoration that are meant to completely replace a tooth. If one or more of your teeth has been removed, we suggest that you come into the office for care as soon as possible. By doing so, we will be able to provide you with brand new implants that help to replace what’s missing. At Rivers Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we aim to provide you with the best care possible regarding your new implants.
Why would someone need Dental Implants?
The reason a person may benefit from implants is because they’re missing a tooth. In the past, the only way that you could replace a tooth was with a fixed bridge or partial denture. Rather than having to compromise any of your remaining teeth, we recommend an implant. Implants act as anchors or foundations for other restorations, like dental crowns.
Who is a candidate for Implants?
The best candidate for an implant is someone who has solid, healthy bone in and around the jaw area. Dr. Rivers will carefully examine your teeth to determine if this type of implant is needed and if so, the best way to go about placing it. Once the implant has been placed, you can expect that it will last a lifetime. Most people have their implants in place for years without the area needing to be repaired.
What happens during the Implant procedure?
The first step is to consult with you regarding the implants needed. From there, you will come in for an appointment at your own convenience and we will work carefully to place the titanium implants. We will retract the gums and embed the new implant into the jaw bone. Once the surgery is finished, we’ll give the implant a couple of months to heal on its own. During this time, the implant will begin to fuse with the surrounding bone so that it becomes part of your smile. A crown can be placed over it once healed, giving you a beautiful, fully functional smile.
If you suspect that implants are right for you, call the office today and we’ll get you in for a convenient consultation appointment.
