What's an Onlay or Inlay?
An onlay and inlay are both designed to completely restore your teeth to their original beauty. You can benefit from having either of these restorations placed if your teeth are damaged or broken in any way. You will want to come into the office to have this work done so that your smile can be restored. Here at Rivers Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer many restorative options to fit your needs.
Who would need an Onlay or Inlay?
The reason a person may need either an onlay or an inlay is because a tooth is damaged. The tooth might have cracked just enough to damage the tooth, but not enough to warrant a full dental crown. These restorations are typically smaller than crowns, but are made out of the same material. You can expect them to last for many years before replacement will be needed.

Who is the right candidate for an Onlay or Inlay?
The best candidate for this type of option is someone who has a damaged or compromised tooth. The tooth may not be suitable for a crown, so we recommend that an onlay or an inlay be placed. We will instruct you to come into our office for an exam by Dr. Rivers. The doctor will take a look at the tooth to see if it is in need of treatment.
What happens during the Onlay or Inlay process?
The process to make and then place either of these restorations always begins with impressions. These impressions will be taken of your teeth and gums and then used to craft a brand new inlay or onlay. The restoration will then be placed over your tooth at a second appointment. You can expect the entire process to take about an hour, and the second visit should take no more than about 30 minutes of your time to have the restoration placed.
If you think you would benefit from either an onlay or an inlay, call us today and we will get you in for a convenient appointment.
