What is a Dental Crown?

Dental crowns allow us to completely cover a damaged tooth. We are able to place a small restoration over a tooth that’s been compromised as a way to keep it protected. Once you come in for an exam, we can see if a crown is necessary. At Rivers Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer this care in a convenient and helpful manner.

Why would someone need a Crown?

The reason someone would need a new dental crown is because they have a tooth that’s damaged or seriously compromised. In an effort to improve the look and functionality of the tooth, we may recommend that a crown be placed. It is important that you come into the office for an exam to see if and when one of these restorations is required. You can benefit from having this type of restoration made and placed over your tooth.

What happens during the Crown procedure?

The crown procedure is easy and quick, and it can be done in our office in two parts. We first prep the tooth to receive the new crown. This is done by filing it down. We then take impressions of the tooth and use these molds to make brand new crown restorations. You will come back into the office in about a week or two to have the crown placed. The second appointment is very quick and normally just takes about a half an hour from start to finish.
